Handicap System
Information about the G.N.A.S. Handicap System.
The GNAS Handicap System has been developed to enable archers of different abilities, ages or bow types to shoot against each other on a level playing field.
Indoor and Outdoor Handicaps are kept separately but are calculated in exactly the same way.
For all rounds there is a handicap table. Handicaps start at 100 and the top archers could reach a handicap of 0.
To obtain a Initial Handicap, an archer must shoot three rounds. Then, by checking the Handicap Tables can assign a Handicap Figure to each of the rounds.
These three figures are then averaged to give the archer a starting Handicap.
Every Round shot from there on can be used to improve their Handicap. Handicaps can only improve they cannot get worse.
During the next shoot, a Temporary Handicap can also be taken.
If the Temporary handicap is better (Lower) then the archers current Handicap then the archer can improve his handicap by half the difference between his Handicap and the Temporary Handicap.
When two or more archers want to have a Handicap competition a Handicap Allowance is allocated to each archer. This is like a starting score that the archer then improves on.
NB : Currently there are no Handicap Values for the Burntwood Equivalent Rounds.
Examples:
Improving Your Handicap:
Robin has a starting handicap of 35. Calculated as shown above.
Robin then decides he is going to shoot an Albion
After Shooting the Albion and scoring 900, which would give him a Handicap of 26.
Halving the difference, Robins new handicap is 30.5. This is then rounded down to give him a New handicap of 30.
Adjusted Competitions:
Robin with his Handicap of 35 and Marian with her Handicap of 50, decide to shoot an Albion.
Robin scored 900 and Marian scored 690. So in a straight forward competition Robin would win.
Using their Handicaps and the Handicap Allowances, Robin would have started on 621 and Marian on 850.
Therefore in this competition,
Robin scored 621 + 900 = 1521 and
Marian scored 850 + 690 = 1540,
meaning that in the Handicap Adjusted competition Marian would win.
