How to Become a VI Archer
| Step 1 | Contact your local Archery Club. You can do this by contacting Archery GB (The UK Governing Body for Archery) and request information about your nearest club. |
| Step 2 | Inform the club coach of your Sight Impairment and
ask about any tactile sighting equipment if you require it.
Most clubs should be geared up to cater for any VI Archer. Then enjoy a Basic Introduction course at your local club which will give you the knowledge needed to participate in the sport. Many V.I’s have suitable residual vision to be able to use a bow sight or adapted bow sight. If you have this ability, use it!!!, you will find it much more beneficial. |
| Step 3 | Become a Member of Archery GB and
British Blind Sport. You will need the Archery GB membership to participate in competitions and at your archery club. This cost varies from club to club, but specific clubs for disabled archers receive a subsidy in the affiliation fees from Archery GB. You will need the British Blind Sport Membership to obtain a sight classification and enter any BBS Archery Events. |
| Step 4 | Find out when the next BBS Archery
Coaching weekend is taking place, come along and gain the
extra knowledge which will help you and your spotter. Details on the Calendar. |
If you have a problem contact a committee member, who will then try to arrange some more in depth details for the archery coaches of your chosen club. Also get the coach to check out our web sites for photographs and more information.
Our development team also undertake visits to clubs and
organisations to promote V.I Archery with hands on approach. Please
Contact Us for details.
